Over the past few years I’ve become very passionate about “saving our planet” and in a small way I believe I am contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I live in a remote country town with a population of 1,500 people. Up until I came to live here I worked full time and lived a very busy lifestyle and the truth is I gave little thought to the environment. Let me say, I wasn’t a pig in the sense that I didn’t drop litter and I did recycle, plus global warming was an issue that came up a lot in the past 10 years. I personally believe that global warming is a myth and it is a natural cycle that causes the Earth to heat and cool. Nevertheless I also know that carbon emissions and toxic gases leached into the atmosphere must cause problems, whether to human or animal species alike.

In this town, our drinking water is held in underground reserves called “aquafers” and certain lawn fertilizers are banned as not only do they leach into the underground water reserves but also into our beautiful pristine river. I would never have given this a thought whilst in the city. I have learnt that restricting fertilizer use to certain types makes a huge difference to the ecology of this area.

I try to recycle uncooked food scraps as this makes a great organic fertilizer for a healthy garden. I even think my Golden Retriever tries to “recycle” as well as he loves the small nuts that constantly fall off the Cocos Palms. He chews them up like dry dog food. Unfortunately his doggie do do’s (barker’s eggs) can’t be recycled and are bagged and put in the rubbish bin.

I commenced this website because of my interest in the environment and I’ve learned so much in the past four years. I would love for you to join me on this wonderful journey to becoming environmentally friendly and green.

Please understand, going green doesn’t mean you need to become a “tree hugger” or an “environmentalist” who frequents every demonstration held in your capital city. Like me, you can be subtle in your quest for a better environment. If we all make a small effort to be environmentally friendly, the long term benefits to us and the generations to come will surely be beneficial.

Join us now.

Best wishes,
Diana and Robert Schofield
