The most effective way through which your children can live a green life style is with care and consideration for the animals, people and environment with which your children share their life.  By making your children environmentally responsible from an early age, it will make a huge difference and the impact on our planet will be profound. Make time with your children to play and enjoy the greenery of parks and gardens. Take your dog for a walk, go to the nearby beach or arrange a picnic with your friends or family. You will definitely feel healthier and happier and you will enjoy being outdoors in the fresh air and at the same time you will connect with Mother Nature and start sensing good things for planet Earth. There are some steps or ways through which you can help your children understand the value of green living. Some of them are as follows:

  • Using public transport- It is best to use your motor vehicle only when it is a necessity otherwise use public buses or trains wherever convenient. A day out with your children can include a bus or train trip to your destination.
  • Encourage your children to recycle vegetables and fruits peelings in a compost bin. You could also introduce your children to the benefits of a worm farm and the castings etc from the worm farm are great fertilizer for your garden. Teach your children that if they see any litter around the neighborhood, to pick it up and put it in the bin. In relation to litter, it is not advisable for children to collect broken glass or other sharp objects but collecting papers left lying around will help to make your neighborhood a nicer place to be. Your children will learn that there are many benefits to keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.
  • Involve your children in gardening during holidays so that they can understand the value of plants. Fertilizing the garden with the worm farm castings will help your children understand the idea of recycling and your garden will be much healthier for it.
  • Encourage your children to help the less fortunate by donating some of their toys. Encourage them to conserve electricity such as switching off fans and lights when not in use. Turning off the taps while brushing their teeth is also a good step for them to take.
  • Recycling activities and projects for children – Invent games for children which involve recycling of materials such as a game like throwing plastic materials in the bin from a distance. This can be a lot of fun whilst at the same time teaching your children about the benefits of green living.

Teaching your children from an early age about the benefits of living green will encourage them to play a bigger part in keeping their planet healthy.  They will also realize that living green does not mean hugging trees, it means a better way of life for both them and future generations. Growing up with a green philosophy, your children will learn to save the environment and they will think twice about negatively impacting on our beautiful planet.[private_silver]
